Another excellent review, Joe! Bill and I had another long drive, and enjoy reading your reviews aloud and then discussing them. I haven't seen My Cousin Vinny in a while but I really enjoyed it, and recently saw a video channel assess it in terms of how well it portrayed the relationship. Between that and now your review, I *really* want to see it again -- now that I have so many more details you've pointed out for me to catch. And as always, I love hearing about the process of creating, and what other actors were considered.

It's been suggested that I record audio versions of each review, Joy, and your comment added a lot more oil to that machine. I never would've thought people on road trips would be reading these articles, but they're also getting longer than I anticipated when I started. I'm up to posting 15-16 minute reads now. Thanks so much for reading and for commenting.

Well I, for one, prefer reading them out loud than listening to audio versions. That makes it more of an interactive experience. Plus with audiobooks, I always have to stop and rewind because I couldn't understand something that was said, or missed it. But I could see how people driving by themselves would benefit from that.

Joe, another great deep dive and fascinating piece. It’s been a while for me to comment but yet again… you choose a movie filmed in my state of Georgia :). Can’t wait to revisit this film armed with so much more context and background than when I watched it during its original release era with my family while vacationing in Arizona…

Wonderful work.

Not only shot in Georgia, shot entirely in Georgia. My Cousin Vinny didn't come back to L.A. to film interiors but did those in the Peach State too. You can tell they arrived in winter and it's pretty chilly outdoors, but the small town buildings and locals casting provided some production value the humidity didn't. Thanks so much for commenting, J!

I never liked Ralph Macchio… Don’t really know why, thought he was whiny in all of the karate kid movies, unbelievable as a guitar player in crossroads, and can’t think of anything else he was in that I might’ve liked… My cousin Vinny was thoroughly enjoyable… Loved Herman Munster as the judge Fred Gwen from car 54 where are you? Joe Pesci – funny, Marissa told me – stunning, the actor that played Trotter prosecuting attorney – always entertaining. This movie was so much fun, and all of your background information as to how it even got produced, as always, Joe great job thanks! Peace! CPZ.

Thanks for your comment, as always, Zeke. When I mention My Cousin Vinny, everyone has a different point they bring up--most recently, it was "magic grits"--but I'm surprised by how many people have seen it. One item that came up in my research that I left out is that Dale Launer visited with an assistant district attorney during his scouting trip to Alabama and the guy reminded him of Lane Smith, who played a lot of rural characters. Launer ended up casting him as the DA.
